Game Of The Week!
Michigan State VS Oregon
The Spartans travel to Eugene to take on the Ducks! This is one of the hardest games I’ve had to pick in recent history. The Ducks struggle mightily against teams that buckle their chin straps, and MSU buckles their chin straps. Oregon’s offensive line is a question mark and their defense didn’t look great last week against lowly South Dakota. MSU has a potent, clock controlling offense, and a defense built to slow an offense like Oregon’s down. MSU will score on nearly every possession and Oregon will hang with them, but the Ducks defense will be the reason the Ducks struggle. I’m going with the upset and picking the Spartans. MSU wins this one 45-38. Obviously, I’m going with MSU against the spread (MSU +12).
Michigan VS Notre Dame
The Wolverines take on the Fighitn’ Irish for the last time. Both programs have been talking a lot of shit lately and this one should have a lot of emotion tied to it. The Wolverines played the “chicken dance” song last year after they beat Notre Dame, insinuating that the Irish were too scared to keep the series going. This one is played in South Bend and the crowd will keep that “chicken dance” in mind the whole 60 minutes. Everett Golson missed last year due to ineligibility, but he spent it training with the legendary George Whitfield, the same coach that tutored Johnny Football. This Irish team is much different with Golson under center and that’s why I’m picking them to win. Irish win 34-24. I’ll take the Irish against the spread as well (ND -4)
USC VS Stanford
I called for Stanford to have a down year in my pre-season predictions, but after watching them last week I’m not so sure. I also called for USC to have an up year and after their performance last week I’m more convinced. These two teams probably have the best two special teams units in the country and it wouldn’t surprise me if both teams took their opening kickoffs to the house. Stanford lost 4 starters on the offensive line and they haven’t found a running back to replace Tyler Gafney. USC is loaded with talent on both sides of the football and they beat the Cardinal last year with Ed Orgeron at coach. I like USC in this one 27-24. I’ll take the Trojans against the spread as well (USC +3)
BYU vs Texas
The Longhorns take on the Cougars in Austin. David Ash will sit this one out with his 877th concussion, and Tyrone Swoopes will get the nod. Swoopes is a former 5 star recruit and comes in at 6’4” and 240 lbs. Last year I called for Swoopes to be the starter by season’s end but he never lived up to his hype. I have a feeling that this kid is a gamer, just one of those players that rises above the competition in a game time situation. BYU and Texas looked good last week but they played Connecticut and North Texas respectively. I called for the Horns to win the BIG 12 and make the CFB Playoff in my preseason indicator, and if they can’t beat BYU at home they won’t win either. Horns win this one 28-14. There’s no line on this one but I’ll go with Texas -7.5.
I’m not picking an upset special this week as I have picked two upsets already (USC, and MSU).
